Short Courses

At Intrinsic Training Solutions we are an approved centre for the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health therefore we are able to deliver many of their certificated courses.

The Food Safety and Health & Safety courses do compliment the NVQs we specialise in delivering at Intrinsic Training Solutions.

These courses do have a prescribed syllabus and therefore to pass the examination this must be adhered to as a minimum. However to suit your needs as an organisation we are able to add to or emphasise areas of the syllabus to meet your organisation needs.

All the courses have a minimum number of hours in which the course must be delivered over.

All the courses are delivered in English although exam papers are available in many different languages and providing individuals have an unerstanding of English to understand the course content we can offer the option of a foreign language test paper or an oral test paper.

The cost of delivery is often negotiated around the whole package of courses we deliver for you. All materials are supplied and the cost of registration and certification with the C.I.E.H. is included in the cost.

The Level 3 Award in Food Safety Supervision

This course is for people working in the food industry (manufacturing) at a Supervisory level. We also deliver this course for the retail, catering and care indusry.

It is ideal for those with responsibility for quality assurance, the buying of raw materials, customer complaints investigation or on-the-job training.

Intermediate Certificate Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)

Everyone working in the food industry has a legal and moral responsibility to produce food products free from any contamination. It is now a matter of law. as well as good practice, for all food businesses to take preventative measures to ensure food safety. This means designing and implementing a suitable documented system with sufficiant controls to eliminate or reduce the risk of possible contamination hazards.

This course explains the principles and practices of hazard analysis. There are a number of basic steps and principles but no matter how simple the system or the operations it may cover, it can only be effective if the individuals responsible understand the principles and practices of hazard analysis.

Candidates who would benefit from this training programme are owners, managers, supervisors, team leaders and trainers. Candidates should have a working knowledge of the food industry and food safety issues. It is strongly recommended that at least the foundation certificate or equivalents should have been completed. The courses delivered, typically, in two days. Afterwhich, the students will undertake a tailored assignment in agreement with the course tutor, the food manafactor process will be chosen and the assignment completion date agreed with the candidate, usually four weeks.

On successful completion, a CIEH endorsed certificate will be presented.

The Level Two Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing (Meat & Poultry)

There are serious consequences of proper standards are not maintained with recent attention from the Governement, the media and the public, the industry, once again, is under the spotlight. The need to continually reinforce and be seen to at least be attempting to improve standards is therefore essential. This course aims at doing that.

Overview:

  • Taking responsiblity for food safety - food safety procedures, reporting food safety hazards, pest infestation, product spoilage and legislation.
  • The importance of personal hygiene - effective handwashing, being ill, reporting responsibility, correct dressing of wounds, wearing correct protective clothing the importance of good, personal hygiene. 
  • Keeping the product safe - contamination and cross-contamination, food poisoning/food borne illness, food handling procedures, temperature control, stock control, spoilage and food preservation.  
  • Keeping the work area clean and hygienic - Keeping the work area and equipment clean and tidy, importance of waste disposal, pest infestation, pest control and identification of different pests.

Health and Safety:

The CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

This qualification provides essential knowledge and understanding of health and safety for working adults in any industrial sector. Whether in, manufacturing, commerce or public service. A good health and safety culture relys on employers and emplyees working together to reduce risks and prevent accidents and ill health arising from working activities. Although employers have a legal responibility to provide safe and healthy work place conditions and safe systems of work an essential part of and safe system is the knowledge, the attitude and the up-to-date information the employee's have to uphold such safe systems of work.

This level two certificate in health and safety aims to provide all candidates with a working knowledge and understanding to enable them to contribute to health and safety in the workplace.

  • Personal Protective Equipment - the function of P.P.E, responsibilities for the used care and maintenance of P.P.E
  • Workplace safety - Building structure, design layout and servicces, importance of good storage such as stacking and housekeeping. The use of different safety signs.
  • Work equipment - How equipment can cause injury
  • Electricity - Installation testing and maintenace, fault reporting, improving electrical safety and dealing with electric shock.
  • Fire prevention - Parts of the fire triangle, fire prevention and safety evacuation. Use of fire extinguishers and action to be taken in case of fire.
  • Occupational health - main health hazards, occupational illnesses and diseases and control measures.
  • Hazardous substances - Identification, correct use and control methods.
  • Ergonomics and work station design - repetitive strain injury and other musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Manual handling - Correct lifting techniques, manual handling assessment and possible injuries.
  • Noise - Noise reduction and control, hearing protection and 'what is noise.'
