Lifelong learning is learning that takes place beyond the school environment. To teach in the lifelong learning sector you must have certain qualifications and engage in continuous professional development. This course is designed to support you as you embark on the journey to achieve a threshold licence to teach.

The qualification has been accredited ontothe Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) and is mapped to the Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) mandatory unit, which relates to theNational Occupational Standards (NOS)‘Professional standards for teachers, tutorsand trainers in the lifelong learning sector’. On achieving this qualification, you may progress onto a Level 4 Award in Preparingto Teach in the Lifelong Learning Secto (PTLLS), a Level 3 or Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector(CTLLS) or the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)

This qualification sets the minimum standard for all those in or entering the teaching, learning and development sector. It introduces the knowledge and skills required by teachers to develop and deliver programmes, provide learning support and take responsibility in managing the learning process in post-16 education.

Who needs this qualification?

Anyone entering teaching or training roles or already in-service who needs to achieve the minimum threshold status as a teacher within the following:

  • Further Education College.

The training programme is delivered by Intrinsic Training Solutions typically over 5 days, with a, requirement for revision and assignment planning, development and presentation. To be successful in this programme, candiates must submit and pass all three assignments:

Assignment one

When delivering the the micro-teach session, candidates must demonstrate their ability to:

  • Set up the room for effective learning.
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with learners.
  • Give feedback to learners.

Candidates will be given feedback from their peers in the group and from the trainer, and are required to complete a self evaluation to reflect on and review the effectiveness of their micro-teach session.

Candidates are also required to give structured written and verbal feedback to their peers in the group.

 

Assignment Two:

Candidates are required to write a concise summary (approximately 1,200 words) about the role and responsibilities of teachers in relation to :

Assignment Three

 

Candidates are required to review a teaching session that they have delivered recently (this may or may not be the teaching session delivered as part of the PTLLS programme) and describe:

  1. The teaching and learning approaches used.
  2. The effectiveness of learning that took place.
  3. Areas where they could improve their teaching

Candidates must describe how they would extend this teaching session into a full teaching programme.

 

   4. They should produce two further session plans from the teaching programme, which must include:

   5. An indication of how the session relates to a full teaching programme.

   6. The nature  of the target group.

   7. The learning outcomes.

   8. A selection of teaching and learning approaches to engage and motivate learners.

   9. An appropriate method of testing that learning has occurred.

 10. An indication of where functional skills can be embedded into the teaching programme.

 

All Assignments are first marked by the trainer and then moderated and, if necessary,second marked by the CIEH. Candidates will be awarded a pass or fail grade.

 

Successful candidates will be able to:

• Understand their own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching

• Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches within a specialist area

• Demonstrate their session planning skills – plan, deliver, observe and evaluate a micro-teach session

• Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions that motivate learners

• Understand the use of different assessment methods

• Understand and analyse the need for accurate record keeping and procedures that can be adopted – including internal and

  external assessment information.

 

Why is This Training Important?

By 2013 anyone who teaches courses that are publicly-funded will have to be qualified. This qualification meets the basic minimum standard for those entering the lifelong learning profession and obtains a threshold licence to teach.

The programme is ideal for :

  • Those entering teaching or training roles
  • Those already is in service who need the minimum theshold status as a teacher or trainer within further education college, adult and community learning centre or workbased learning or a training provider organisation.
  • Environmental health parctitioners and others wishing to deliver vocationally-related qualifications in the publicly funded sector.

Duration:

  • Typically delivered over Five-days which will normally be one day per week programme.
