Assessor Award (A1) Level Three

Intrinsic Training Solutions offers the chance to obtain a Level Three Assessor Award. It is a unit based approach which assesses the candidates skills, knowledge and understanding in a work environment.

Once enrolled on this course, candidates will recieve a cumulative assessment record (which is the candidates record of their assessment over time) Included in this book is seven sections:

• Guidance for candidates
• Guidance for centres
• Assessor and internal verifier requirements
• Key Skills signposting
• Glossary of terms
• NVQ unit of competance
• Recording documents

This qualification can be achieved whilst being employed as an Assessor. This is one of the flexible features of this course, you can be employed as an Assessor whilst completing this qualification.

You will work alongside an Assessor who will monitor your assessment decisions. Once your Assessor has judged, from your evidence, you have demonstrated competency in all aspects of this qualification and have reached a competant level, you will qualify for the A1 award. There is no exam or previous qualifications needed for this qualification. However, you will be expected to have reasonable understanding of liteacy and numeracy.

Intrinsic Training will provide you with an Assessor who will be allocated to you, to guide and assess you progression through this course.

Before you start this course, your Assessor will discuss your currect skills, past experience, competancy and job role with you to ensure that his qualification is suitable for you.

Assessor 

As an Assessor you must have sufficient occupational competency and up-to-date working knowledge of the principals and practices used in your area of work that you may assess against.

Sufficient Occupational Competency is:

• Having held a post in which you have been involved in carrying out, activities in the standards of the relevant NVQ in your work area.

or:

• Being an experienced trainer or instructor in the area of work you are interested in training or assessing.

For both of the above, you will need to demostrate you have up to date knowledge, involving at least some of the following activities.

• Work Placement
• Job Shadowing
• Technical Skill Updates
• Attending Relevant Courses.
• Studying for Learning and Development related to the job role.
• Closely working with relevant awarding body/ies
• Qualifications Development Work
• Relevant Appropriate Occupational Activity

All Assessors will need to either hold the relelvant assessor qualification (D32/33 or A1) or agree to work towards gaining the qualification whilst doing the job of assessing. 

You can work towards your assessor qualification with Intrinsic Training Solutions whilst you are doing the job of assessing.

Personal Specification

Job Title: Assessor

	Essential	Desirable
Qualifications/Training	Experience of working in the specific industry for at least two years. e.g. food manufacture, meat production, cleaning etc.	NVQ Qualification. D32/33 or A1. D34/V1. Supervisory experience. Experience of communicating with senior management.
Knowledge and Experience	To have experience/knowledge of the different processess within your specific area of work. e.g. food manufacture. Working knowledge of personal and general Health and Safety requirements within specific in your area of work. Knowledge of how to motivate people. Knowledge of Equal Opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice. Understanding of different learning styles i.e. how people learn.  Understanding the concept of competency i.e.people able to complete their job properley.  Experience of working successfully with people form diverse backgrounds.	Experience of assessment practice in the workplace Experience of liasing with people at different levels of management

You must be a pro-active, self driven individual, who has the ability to work on your own initiative. As a confident and personable communicator, you will have the aptitude to liase and work with people at all levels.

Internal Verifiers

All Internal Verifiers (IVs) will need to have sufficient occupational competence and have the experience of having worked as an Assessor of the specific NVQ they are verifying.

Sufficient Occupational Competency is;

• Working (or experience) as an Assessor for the NVQ in your occupational area either currnently or recently.
• Have up-to-date evidence of Continuos Professional Development (CPD)
• Having acheived the Internal Verificaiton Qualification or be able to show you are working towards this qualification
• Involvment relating to the IV job role
• Working closely with an awarding body/ies
• Qualification development work
• Relevant Appropriate Occupational Activity.

As an Internal Verifier you will be accountable and responsibile for the quality control of assessments of the occupational standards and the assessment process.

All Internal Verifiers will have a sound working knowledge of assessment and verificaiton principles as defined in the national standards for internal quality assurance and working knowledge of the NVQ code of practice.

Internal Verifiers are required to have acheived their Internal Verification Qualification or have a development plan showing they are working towards this qualification.
