The food manufacture industry is the largest manufacturing sector in the UK, employing some half a million people and producing 11% of the UK's manufacturing output. Employers work in an increasingly competitive market where the quality and safety of products are of prime concern to the customer. It is essential then that employees are highly skilled and adaptable in their working practices and are highly motivated in their approach to work. We know that in 3 years (2015) 47% of people currently employed in the food and drink production industry.                   

The very successful Food Manufacture NVQ programmes have now been replaced. The content has been updated and the flexibility increased resulting in the QCF Food Industry Proficiency Qualifications. Refer to What is the QCF?  for more details.

The Food manufacturing industry requirement for the content and the flexibility of the qualifications to meet the needs of the modern food manufacturing industry have been met.These QCF programmes are completed whilst the learner is at work in a similar way to how the Food Manufacture NVQs were achieved. Most of the work the individuals complete can be done on the shop floor although release off line would have a bigger benefit as there are less distractions.

Intrinsic Training Solutions have developed the programmes so this is delivered in the workplace on the shop floor with minimum disruption but requires some planned release from the shop floor.

• The QCF Food Industry Skills qualification standards have been created to meet the standard of national best practice within the food manufacturing industry.
• The QCF Food Industry Skills qualification standards are very wide ranging to reflect the breadth of activities that have to be encompassed to cover such a broad occupational area.

For people working in the food manufacture industry providing a support service to production perhaps washing equipment, cleaning the production line at the change over of product, cleaning in place and similar tasks are now included in the individual sector specific QCF Qualification
